Woodbridge

This is one of the greatest ever links course designs in the mould of Muirfield and Royal St George’s. It simply has superb playability and a great visual look without too many frills which really appeals to me. However the original version did need some tweaks, especially an Open tournament option. Matthew Woodbridge, the original designer never had the time to complete an update to this course so i took the opportunity to add a full tournament option with deep crowds in 2004. I returned to this design in 2006 to correct some annoying planting issues and remove the steel grass stalks, increased the number of pins available and added hole handicaps, and finally added a new start up screen.

The remainder of the course just didnt need changing, including the texturing as i like it just the way it is, with a worn and slightly dry look you can expect from a summer Open venue. The tall grass really frames the holes well, and if you play in 16 bit you will achieve a fresher more spring green look to the grass which is a great alternative. The 2006 final version has been names Woodbridge (Old Course) to distinguish it from the other version and to give it a name that fits its history as one of the early Links 2001 designs. I hope you continue to enjoy it.
